Breathwork at Sukha Yoga Austin

Breathwork & Pranayama Classes in Austin, TX

The breath is the only system in the body that is both automatic and fully under your conscious control. That makes it one of the most powerful tools available to you and one of the most underused. At Sukha Yoga, pranayama and breathworkpractitioners are foundational practices woven throughout our classes and offerings.

Breathwork and pranayama classes are offered at Sukha locations across Austin.

Pranayama is the ancient yogic practice of conscious breath regulation. The word breaks down simply: prana means life force or vital energy, and ayama means to extend or expand. Pranayama practices work by deliberately altering the rhythm, depth, and pattern of breathing to shift the state of your nervous system, your mind, and your energy.

At Sukha, pranayama is taught in its traditional context as one of the eight limbs of yoga. You'll learn not just the techniques but the philosophy and purpose behind them, giving your practice roots that go deeper than any single breathing exercise.

Some of the traditional techniques taught at Sukha include Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing), Ujjayi (victorious breath), Kapalabhati (skull-shining breath), Bhramari (humming bee breath), and breath retention practices all introduced gradually and taught with care and awareness to meet you and the season of life you are in. We also offer modern approaches to breathwork such as Holotropic, Flow state, and Psychedelic as doorways to altered states using your own body rather than substances to shift experience.

Breathwork — Modern Practice, Ancient Roots

Contemporary breathwork draws from pranayama tradition and applies it in accessible, experiential formats, often incorporating guided rhythm, music, and intentional movement to create a practice that can shift your state quickly and powerfully.

Sukha's breathwork classes are grounded and teacher-led. You'll be guided through each technique with clear instruction, always with options to work at your own pace and intensity. These classes are appropriate new practitioners and experienced alike. They consistently rank among the most impactful classes our community attends.
