Build on Nervous System Literacy
Nervous system literacy is the foundation of modern yoga study. Patanjali outlined practices two thousand years ago that we now understand are working directly with the autonomic nervous system. Asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana. These are tools that shift your physiology. When yoga is taught with this understanding, it becomes a real practice for stress, trauma recovery, and emotional resilience.
Rooted in the 8 limbs of yoga
We teach all 8 limbs of the classical yoga tradition, not just asana and breath. Yamas, niyamas, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, samadhi. The whole framework Patanjali laid out, integrated with modern movement science and contemporary understanding of the nervous system.
Hundreds of certified Sukha Yoga Teacher Training Graduates
Sukha-trained teachers are teaching across Austin and beyond. You will join a real lineage of practitioners.
Curriculum
Sukha trains teachers in structural frameworks, not memorized scripts. You leave with the skills to design classes for real people. Sukha Yoga Austin’s 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training curriculum is built around the 8 limbs of yoga, integrated with modern movement science and contemporary nervous system understanding. Each of the seven curriculum blocks below is a doorway into the larger framework Patanjali laid out more than two thousand years ago.
Personal Practice Refinement
Intelligently and compassionately deepen your relationship to your body and breath. In the unrushed setting of teacher training you will learn how poses and breathing techniques affect your unique body, understand how movement and stillness shift energy and build confidence on your mat.
Philosophy and Inner Work
Study Patanjali's Yoga Sutra and the 8 limbs in depth. Engage with Buddhist teachings, devotional practice, and the philosophical roots that shape modern yoga. Practice applying these insights to your real life with clarity, compassion, and steadiness.
Teaching Skills and Voice
Students will study and practice teaching techniques that support clarity, intelligent demonstration, and skillful observation. Practice cueing, theming, and finding your own teaching voice through guided labs and supportive real-time feedback.
Physiology and Nervous System Care
Anatomy, injury awareness, and the science of how yoga supports the nervous system. Polyvagal theory, the autonomic nervous system, and the physiology of breath and movement. Nervous system literacy is woven through every block of the training, not treated as a separate module.
Trauma-Sensitive Teaching
A core pillar of Sukha's pedagogy. A trauma sensitive teacher emphasizes choice, consent, and bodily autonomy. Students will learn why safety, choice, and consent matter for well-being of individuals and communities.
Ethics, Equity, and the Business of Yoga
Conscious leadership, healthy boundaries, accessibility, and how to share yoga in a way that aligns with your values. Practical tools for teaching in studios, online, and in private settings
The 8 Limbs of Yoga
Patanjali outlined the 8 limbs of yoga more than two thousand years ago in the Yoga Sutra. They form a complete framework for living the practice, not just performing it.
Asana, the limb most modern trainings focus on, is one of eight. The other seven shape how we move through the world, breathe, listen, focus, and rest. Sukha's 200 Hour Training teaches all eight, with modern translation that meets you in the life you are actually living.
Meet your teachers.

Our Program Parameters:
Partial Tuition Assistance: Awards typically range between $200 and $700 off the total tuition, depending on funding availability and applicant need.
Who This Is For: Priority is given to frontline community workers (educators, social workers, non-profit staff), individuals dedicated to bringing yoga to underserved populations, and those experiencing genuine financial hardship.
If you are deeply committed to this process but need financial bridging to make it possible, we invite you to apply.
