FAQs
New to Sukha?
What does "Sukha" mean?
Sukha is a Sanskrit word meaning ease, happiness, and bliss — the feeling of being at home in your body and your life. That's exactly what we aim to create here: a space where you can land, breathe, and feel at home.
I'm new to yoga — where should I start?
Welcome! We love new students. Slow Flow, Glow, Nervous System Reset, and Meditation classes are especially beginner-friendly. That said, all classes can be adapted for any level — so feel free to explore what interests you. Just let your teacher know you're new so we can offer extra support and make you feel at home.
I'm not flexible — can I still do yoga?
Yes! This is the most common thing we hear, and we love it. You don't need to be flexible to start yoga — that's like saying you need to be clean to take a shower. Flexibility, strength, and balance all come with practice. Every pose can be modified, and props are always available to support you. Come as you are.
What should I wear to class?
Comfortable, stretchy clothing you can move freely in. Avoid anything too loose that might fall over your head in forward folds. You'll practice barefoot — leave your shoes and socks with your belongings.
What if I can't keep up or need to rest?
Rest is part of the practice. If you need to pause at any point, please feel free to - no explanation needed. Our teachers will never push you beyond what feels right. Listen to your body, honor where you are, and know that showing up is the hardest part.
Should I eat before class?
We recommend eating a light meal at least 2 hours before class. A heavy meal right before practice can be uncomfortable, especially in heated classes. Stay hydrated — drink plenty of water before and after class, and bring a water bottle with you.
Is yoga a religion? Will it conflict with my beliefs?
Yoga is not a religion — it's a practice of connecting body, mind, and breath. The practices we share at Sukha are accessible and welcoming to people of all backgrounds and belief systems. We honor the tradition while keeping it down to earth and genuine.
What do I bring to class?
A yoga mat and water. Mat rentals are $3 at all locations. (Free if you walk or ride a bike!)
Do I need to book ahead or can I just drop in?
Pre-booking is preferred to ease your arrival and guarantee your spot. You can book easily through our app or website. Walk-ins are welcome if space is available.
I'm visiting from out of town — do you have a visitor pass?
Yes! We offer an All-Access Week Pass for $60, valid at all three locations. It includes mat rental if you need one.
Our Classes & Offerings
What types of yoga do you offer?
Heated and Non-Heated Classes
Sukha Yoga Austin offers both infrared heated and non-heated yoga classes across all three studio locations. Our heated classes use infrared panels rather than forced-air systems, creating a gentle, even warmth that heats the body directly without making the room feel stifling. Non-heated options are available every day for students who prefer to practice at room temperature. Whether you're looking for a deep-sweat power flow or a cooling restorative session, you'll find both on our daily schedule.
Our schedule includes vinyasa flow, power yoga, slow burn, yin, restorative, alignment-focused classes, meditation, and pranayama breathwork. Classes range from vigorous and physically challenging to gentle and deeply relaxing. All levels are welcome in every class, and our teachers offer modifications so both newer and experienced students feel supported.
Infrared Heated Vinyasa & Power Yoga — Dynamic, sweaty, and energizing flow in gentle infrared heat
Vinyasa Flow — Breath-linked movement at various paces and intensities
Slow Flow — A mindful and grounded class with accessible pace — great for new to yoga and anyone wanting to slow down and move mindfully.
Yin Yoga — Deep, long-held stretches targeting connective tissue and stillness.
Restorative & Yoga Nidra — Deeply restful, supported practices for nervous system recovery
Meditation & Breathwork — Mindfulness, pranayama, and guided meditation practices
Kundalini & Kriya Yoga — Movement, mantra, and breathwork rooted in the Kundalini tradition
Buddhist Philosophy & Deeper Studies — Classes and courses exploring the contemplative roots of practice
Not sure where to start?
Slow Flow, Flow + Restore, Nervous System Reset, and Meditation are all beginner-friendly.
What is Infrared Heated Yoga?
Infrared heated yoga at Sukha Yoga uses infrared radiant panels to warm the body directly, similar to the warmth of sunlight. Our heated classes are between 90-95 degrees. Unlike traditional hot yoga studios that use forced-air heating, infrared heat does not dry out the air or create an overwhelming sense of humidity. Many students find infrared heat easier to breathe in and more comfortable. Sukha Yoga has infrared heated classes in Austin across our South Austin and Tarrytown locations.
Do you offer livestream or online classes?
Yes! We livestream many classes each day so you can practice with us from anywhere. Check our schedule for classes marked with a livestream option. We also have an On Demand library of recorded classes you can take anytime.
Do you offer private sessions or studio rentals?
Yes! We offer private yoga sessions and studio rentals. Visit our Privates & Studio Rental page for details, or email us at namaste@sukhayogaaustin.com.

NOTE: seasonal specials and discounted packs have different terms and expiration dates and cannot be re-activated due to their deep discounted prices.
Community Etiquette
Sharing space is a practice in itself. Here's how we take care of each other:
Personal items: Each location has a different protocol for shoes and belongings. Please follow the posted guidelines.
Phones: All phones must be silenced and left with your belongings — no phones in the practice space.
Quiet space: Please honor the quiet, meditative environment before and after class.
Kindness: Treat yourself, the teachers, and fellow students with respect.
Scent awareness: Yoga is an intimate practice, and we want everyone to feel comfortable breathing deeply. Please be mindful of personal hygiene and choose subtle or no fragrance for class.
Health & Wellbeing
What if I have an injury or medical condition?
With the approval of your healthcare provider, we welcome you to practice with us. Let your teacher know before class so we can offer thoughtful adaptations. Take your time, rest when you need to, and adjust if something doesn't feel right. If you're sick with anything contagious, please stay home and join us via Zoom — come back in person once you're feeling better!
Pregnant or postpartum?
Congratulations! Here's how to practice safely during this time:
Get clearance from your doctor or healthcare provider before starting or continuing your practice.
Let your teacher know so we can offer specific modifications.
Listen to your body — modify or skip anything that doesn't feel right.
Use props! Blocks, bolsters, blankets, and straps are your allies.
Avoid holding the breath or rapid breathing techniques.
Return to practice gradually and honor your body's healing process.
Sukha is home to many who have practiced with us from prenatal, through birth, and beyond. We look forward to sharing this journey with you.
